We get it. Some folks want the sand raked clean every morning, and they’re good wearing a wristband and hopping from crystalline pool to crystalline pool, all while enjoying bottomless piña coladas and the buffet that never seems to end.
But if you’re someone who wants a more authentic get-away, where you can become a part of the island’s unique culture and get to know its wonderful people, an East End retreat needs to be on your bucket list.
You can still do all things you might expect from an all-inclusive resort. The only difference is that you’ll be doing them, more or less, on your terms. There are no set schedules. A get-away on your schedule
Our Main House and Guest House provide our guests with unfettered access to the ocean for snorkeling, fishing and diving, incredible home-prepared meals, clean and comfortable air-conditioned rooms and a dock with access to the lagoon behind the house.
Here, you can catch a water taxi to one of several funky little bars and restaurants on the East End, or to the taxi stand, where you can grab a four-wheeled taxi and go and do some of the things that might be on your list. A zipline through the jungle? A real live iguana farm? A
monkey and sloth rescue center? Some great shopping? It’s all at your fingertips, and it’s all available on your schedule.
Peace and quiet?
There may be no better place to find that ideal, relaxing vacation than on Roatan’s chill East End. And, at Ocean Breeze Villa, the relaxing retreat is our specialty.
The Caribbean is literally steps from the back porch, and we have our own dock that stretches out into the turquoise water of the sea. From here you can soak up the sun, chill on the covered patio with a good book or wander down to the beach for some great shelling, snorkeling or even fishing.
It’s possible to have an incredibly relaxing East End vacation, complete with the sun, the surf, the clear Caribbean water and three amazing meals every day, without ever leaving the property.
Go and do?
But it’s your vacation, right? And your schedule is your schedule. If you want to spend the morning kitesurfing over the blue-green waters near the second-largest barrier reef in the world, you’re a water taxi ride away from doing just that.
Or, if you want to try your hand at chasing billfish off the southern coast of the island, your guide and outfitter are a phone call away. Fly fishing for wily bonefish? You can actually do that in front of the house in the skinny waters of the Caribbean as they lick the beach. But a good guide can meet you behind the Guest House and have you on a far-flung permit flat in 30 minutes.
Snorkeling? Again, just hop off the dock. But if you want to explore a shallow shipwreck or literally swim with the lemon sharks off Pigeon Cay, you’re a boat ride away. If you want something more mellow, wander next door to the Reef House bar, order a cold piña colada and slip into the spacious tidal pool that’s protected from the modest surf break of the ocean.
Be more than a visitor
The East End is unique in that you can easily become a part of its unique community, even for just a few days. With a handful of lively bars and restaurants — all within a short ride on a water taxi — you can join Roatan’s lively expat community for an evening of live music, or talk with the locals about the best places to go diving or fishing.
Life is slower here. And smiles are bigger because of it. The East End is the real Roatan, not the plastic version you might experience if you were to just hit the shops on a shore excursion from the cruise ship. Here, you’re not just a dollar sign or just another guest. Here, you can immerse yourself in an authentic Caribbean way of life, for a week, two weeks or just for a day or two.
